The Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers have kicked off the American League Division Series with plenty of drama, as both teams have won games by taking the lead in the eighth inning or later. With the series tied 1-1, attention now turns to Detroit for a crucial Game 3.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:08 p.m. ET, though rain in the Detroit area could cause delays.

Here’s the latest weather update for Detroit ahead of Mariners vs. Tigers Game 3.

Is Mariners vs. Tigers delayed?

While there is no official announcement on this afternoon’s game, rain in the area is causing discourse around a potential delay.

According to ClickOnDetroit, “rain chances will be very isolated and light by the time we get to the first pitch at 4:08PM.”

We’re less than an hour away from first pitch, and the rain has nearly stopped in Detroit.

The Tigers and Mariners are scheduled to play Games 3 and 4 at Comerica Park, today at 4:08 p.m. ET and tomorrow at 3:08 p.m. ET.

Stay tuned for the latest updates on first pitch.

How long is a rain delay?

An MLB rain delay has no maximum length, though umpires must wait at least 30 minutes to 75 minutes to call a game. The umpire-in-chief has discretion over when to delay or terminate a game due to weather.

While a short delay may only be a few minutes, extended delays of two to four hours are common depending on weather circumstances.
