MISSION VIEJO, California, Sept. 27 — The SN No. 13 Santa Margarita [Rancho Santa Margarita, CA] Eagles are hosting the SN No. 8 Bishop Gorman [Las Vegas, NV] Gaels here Saturday night at Tesoro High School. Bishop Gorman is leading in the third quarter, 14-0.
The Eagles are enjoying a bit of a resurgence under new head coach Carson Palmer, the former Heisman Trophy winner and Santa Margarita alum who has re-energized the program. The Eagles already have a win over the current No. 6 Centennial [Corona, CA] Huskies, and they’re hoping to add another big name to their national title resume before entering Trinity League play.
The Gaels, meanwhile, are still entertaining national championship thoughts of their own, but with only their in-state Nevada schedule remaining after this, they won’t have any more opportunities to embellish their resume. They will need to beat Santa Margarita, and then hope the Eagles wreak havoc in the Trinity League to build up their own resume.

After sustaining a nice drive into Gorman’s territory, Santa Margarita misses a 32-yard field goal. It’s still 7-0, Gorman.

We’ve got 4:02 left to play before halftime, and the offenses are still scoreless. This feels a lot like Santa Margarita’s 7-3 loss in the 2025 season opener in a defensive slugfest with Mission Viejo. Margarita is driving, though.
