Terry Francona is as much of a baseball lifer as anyone you’ll find.
The Cincinnati Reds‘ manager gave yet another example of that on Tuesday.
Before the Reds began this major week of their season, trying to secure the final NL Wild Card spot, Francona was asked how he was feeling.
This was his answer, via reporter Charlie Clifford:
“It’s baseball. If they were asking us to go do calculus I would be scared to death… as long as this stays baseball, let’s go see if we are good enough.”

Francona told reporters Tuesday he had been in his uniform since 9:45 a.m. (yes, for a night game).
It makes sense that Francona wouldn’t be fazed by the task at hand. He’s won just about everything there is to win.
For that matter, he broke the Red Sox’s Curse of the Bambino. Once you do that, there’s not much else to stress about.
Except a calculus test, to be fair.
Good thing for the Reds they don’t have one of those. They did dig themselves a hole by losing to the Pirates on Tuesday night. They’ve now got to make up a game on the New York Mets over the last five games to make the playoffs.
That’s simple enough math to figure it out, and now Cincy just has to take the field and do it.
