On Tuesday, the Cleveland Guardians took on the Detroit Tigers in an important game. These two clubs are battling to secure the top spot in the American League Central in a tight battle.

Detroit’s flamethrower, Tarik Skubal, was on the mound, trying to get his team past their six-game losing streak. Unfortunately, he could not lift his team to victory as they lost 5-2.

However, the story from the game comes in the sixth inning when David Fry stepped to the plate for Cleveland. He squared around to bunt, but the ball hit the top part of his barrel, and he essentially took a 99 mph fastball to the face.

Fry was on the ground for several minutes, getting attended to by the medical staff. It was a scary scene, and the slugger had to be taken off the field by a medical cart, via Fox Sports

Guardians’ David Fry avoids surgery, expected to fully recover in 6-8 weeks

On Wednesday, Tim Stebbins released an update on David Fry. Luckily, he avoided surgery, but with his recovery timeline, he will not be playing another game this season.

“David Fry sustained ‘multiple displaced left-sided facial and nasal fractures,’ per the Guardians. He’s expected to fully recover over the next 6-8 weeks without need for surgery. Fry was discharged from the Cleveland Clinic and is resting comfortably, per the team.”

With Fry out, Cleveland was quick to make a corresponding move. They recalled Johnathan Rodriguez from Triple-A Columbus and placed Fry on the 10-day IL.
