Enzo Maresca had Facundo Buonanotte and Tyrique George to thank, as a goal from each of them helped Chelsea come from a goal down against Lincoln City and seal their place in the next round of the Carabao Cup.

The Blues found themselves trailing 1-0 after 45 minutes; however, goals from George and Buonanotte saw the visitors turn things around and win their third-round tie.

Maresca was impressed with George’s performance and has since heaped praise on the youngster for contributing to the team’s cause.

George came extremely close to leaving the club in the summer transfer window as he was on the verge of joining Fulham on the last day of the transfer window, but the transfer fell through at the last minute.

Though the youngster was extremely disappointed with the events of the summer, he seems to have got over it and is ready to play his part for the Chelsea squad.

Following the game against Lincoln City on Tuesday, Maresca acknowledged George’s attitude and contributions to the team.

Enzo Maresca heaps praise on Tyrique George

Speaking to Sky Sports following Chelsea’s victory over Lincoln, Maresca said: “We already gave Tyrique George last year some confidence. This year, even Manchester United and Fulham in the second half, he’s playing games and helping us.

“We need that. Last week has been a tough week for us in terms of results. Now we go again.”

While George is a winger, the Chelsea academy product has been playing up front, with Maresca lacking options in the striker position right now.

Tyrique George of Chelsea

George is versatile enough to play anywhere across the frontline, and he underlined his credentials as a striker with a goal against Lincoln City.

Given the injury to Delap, one can expect George to feature more often for Chelsea going forward, as Maresca seems to trust him more than Marc Guiu.
