The Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers are currently in the middle of a three-game set against one another, which holds massive division implications in the American League Central.
The Tigers came into the series up one game in the division, and have ace Tarik Skubal starting in the first game. However, Detroit’s division lead has completely evaporated as the Guardians took the first game in the critical series, 5-2.
In the sixth inning of the contest, there was a scary moment involving Tarik Skubal and the Guardians’ David Fry.
Guardians’ David Fry removed from the game after being struck in the head
In the sixth inning of the Tigers-Guardians game, as Tarik Skubal had been cruising, the wheels started to fall off. Skubal struck Guardians’ David Fry in the head with a 99 mph fastball.
It appeared that Fry squared around the bunt, and the ball completely missed the barrel. Skubal gave a very concerning facial expression, and Fry’s nose appeared to start bleeding out. He was then removed from the game by trainers.

Before Fry was hit, Cleveland started to get to Tarik Skubal. The sixth inning kicked off with a successful bunt by Steven Kwan and a couple of infield singles. One of which Skubal tried to flip a ball through his legs to first, and it sailed over Spencer Torkelson’s head.
Skubal left after the sixth innings, but the three runs scored by Cleveland proved to be the difference. Skubal struck out eight Guardians hitters, but the Detroit could not pick up its ace, and now do not control its own destiny through the final week of the regular season. Buckle up Tigers fans.
