The New York Mets put themselves in a position that no team in Major League Baseball ever wants to be in.
After entering the season with not only expectations of winning the division but also being favorites to win the World Series, it’s evident that things haven’t gone well for the Mets.
Now not holding the opportunity to control their own destiny for the postseason, there’s plenty the Mets will have to figure out over the last week of the regular season.
Mets star breaks his silence amid struggles
While certainly frustrating for the fan base, players, and everybody else involved, the Mets can only blame themselves. Fortunately, star shortstop Francisco Lindor understands that.
“We put ourselves in this position, so we’ve got to find a way to get out of it,” Lindor said, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. “And that comes down to winning.”

Lindor has been nothing but a professional during his time with the Mets, and while there have been moments where he could be better, for the most part, he’s been one of the best players in baseball.
To attribute any of this to one player would be completely unfair, considering the Mets have experienced a total collapse from top to bottom. Of course, other players have been more of an issue than Lindor, but as one of the captains of this team, he needs to be better, too.
As the Mets continue their journey over the next few days, it’ll be essential that every player on the roster performs well. If not, those comments from Lindor won’t mean too much if the team doesn’t figure things out when it matters most.
