Arsenal have suffered another significant injury blow after Noni Madueke was ruled out for up to two months with a knee problem.
The winger was withdrawn at half-time during Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium, having complained of discomfort earlier in the match.
A scan carried out on Monday confirmed the extent of the issue, with further tests planned next week to monitor his recovery.
Mikel Arteta confirmed the news in Tuesday’s pre-match Carabao Cup conference, describing the setback as “very disappointing” given Madueke’s impressive start to life in north London.

“He felt something at the beginning of the match and tried to carry on, but at half-time he was too sore,” Arteta said.
“It doesn’t look too bad, but he was gutted. He has been in such a good state, a real threat for us, so it’s a big miss.”

Madueke’s absence deepens Arsenal’s problems in attack, with Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus also sidelined through injury.
Bukayo Saka, who has only just returned from a hamstring issue of his own, was called upon to replace Madueke against City.
23-year-old Madueke joined Arsenal from Chelsea in the summer in a £48 million ($64.6m) transfer and has quickly established himself as a key figure under Arteta, starting four of the Gunners’ opening five Premier League fixtures.
Madueke has also been in impressive form at international level, starting both of England’s World Cup qualifiers in September and scoring his first senior goal in the victory over Serbia.
The injury is expected to keep him out until late November at the earliest, with Arsenal hoping to have him back available for the busy festive schedule.
Until then, Arteta will need to rely on Saka and Gabriel Martinelli to shoulder the burden in wide areas as the club looks to keep pace at the top of the Premier League.
