Heading into the 2025 season, all eyes were on Arch Manning, the quarterback many expected to emerge as one of college football’s best. He entered the year as the Heisman Trophy favorite, leading a Texas team ranked No. 1 in the preseason.

But through three games, Manning hasn’t lived up to the lofty expectations in his first full season as a starter. He’s completed just 55.3% of his passes for 579 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions. Frustrations peaked against UTEP, when he struggled to find a rhythm, finishing 11 of 25 for 114 yards, a touchdown, and a pick.

After dropping the season opener to No. 3 Ohio State, No. 8 Texas has bounced back with two straight wins. Still, if the Longhorns hope to meet their national championship expectations, it starts with Manning. Before diving into a loaded SEC slate that features four current AP Top 25 opponents, Texas gets one final tune-up at home against Sam Houston.

Arch Manning live updates, highlights from Texas vs. Sam Houston

Manning runs it in for his first touchdown of the game

8:35: Manning has his first touchdown of the game, keeping a read option and running it five yards for a touchdown.

Manning was visibily amped up speaking to Sam Houston players, and had to be warned by the referees. As he went back to the Texas sideline, you could see how hyped up he is.

8:33 p.m.: After the lengthy review, Manning hits Wingo for 18 yards over the middle of the field on the first play. He stayed in the pocket and delivered a missile to the wide receiver, who was open in the middle of the field.

8:29 p.m.: On a 3rd and 1, Manning keeps it on the read option and goes up the line of scrimmage. He gains the first down, but the ball pops out as he’s being brought down in the pile. Though, Manning was ruled down and Texas keeps driving.

8:28 p.m.: Manning opens up his second drive with a play-action curl route to Ryan Wingo on the right side of the field. Wingo, who had 472 yards and two touchdowns in 2024, is expected to take a leap forward.

8:13 p.m.: Manning has looked solid on the Longhorns’ opening drive, but two penalties have driven Texas back. On a 2nd and 20, he hits Parker Livingstone on the right sideline for 18 yards.

Manning and co. drove into the red zone before a Jerrick Gibson 13-yard touchdown run gave the Longhorns their first points of the game. The quarterback was 4-for-6 for 55 yards on the drive.

8:09 p.m.: On Texas’ first third down of the game, Manning stands in the pocket and hits a wide-open Deandre Moore Jr. in the middle of the field for 16 yards.

Texas entered the game last in the SEC with a 28.6% third down conversion rate.

8:07 p.m.: The Texas defense forces a three-and-out to open up the game, and Arch Manning takes the field for his first drive of the game.

8:03 p.m.: We are underway in Austin, with Sam Houston receiving the ball first.

8:01 p.m.: Teams have taken the field, and we are moments away from kickoff. Manning was seen on the sideline amped up and ready to go.

7:26 p.m.: With kickoff less than an hour away, Manning has taken the field for pregame warm ups.

7:00 p.m.: There’s a new development in Manning’s routine: headphones.

Before the Texas quarterback tries to tune out the noise with a big performance, he’s doing it with headphones pregame.

6:35 p.m.: Manning has taken the field to warm up before Texas’ game vs Sam Houston.

The quarterback looks to bounce back from a rough outing against UTEP, where he completed 11-of-24 passes for 114 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
