The New York Giants aren’t wasting any time jumping right into the Cam Skattebo era.
A week after the rookie RB played just eight snaps, he was the leader in the backfield for the Giants on Sunday in the overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
The snaps broke down like this in Week 2:
- Cam Skattebo 33
- Tyrone Tracy 27
- Devin Singletary 4
The rushing workload was even more lopsided.
Skattebo had 11 runs for 45 yards and a touchdown. Tracy had just five carries for 15 yards, and Singletary rushed once for four yards.

The best run of the day for Skattebo was a powerful one in which he broke through the middle of the defense and surged to the 1-yard line. The Giants left him in to cap off the drive with his first NFL touchdown.
The most encouraging part of Skattebo’s game in the early going, in general, is that he also looks like a strong passing-down RB. That was somewhat expected based on his usage at Arizona State, but it can be a make-or-break trait at the NFL level.

If the Giants trust Skattebo on early downs as a rusher and on late downs as a blocker or receiver, they don’t have a great reason to take him off the field.
Going forward, it seems safe to expect Skattebo to lead this backfield until proven otherwise.
