The roster crunch comes for every team in the NFL.
Tuesday was a brutal day across the league, as summer rosters had to be chopped down to initial 53-man rosters for the regular season.
With a team like the Kansas City Chiefs, amid their recent run of success, that often means cutting players who have won Super Bowl rings.
Maybe their most notable cut Tuesday was Mike Pennel.
The 6-foot-4, 330-pound defensive tackle has won a pair of Super Bowl rings with the Chiefs.

He’s 34 years old now, but he’s coming off a season in which he made seven starts, had 25 tackles, put up three sacks and appeared in every game the Chiefs played.
Pennel has actually had two separate stints in Kansas City, both 2019-2020 and 2023-2024.
Across his four Chiefs seasons, he has 4.0 sacks and 82 tackles.

Pennel has also played for the Packers, Jets, Bears and Falcons.
He was originally undrafted after splitting his college career between Arizona State and Colorado State-Pueblo.
Now, he has spent 11 seasons in the NFL, with 138 appearances that include 25 starts.
Pennel will likely latch on elsewhere as a big veteran presence on the defensive line with a lot of winning experience, but his time in Kansas City seems to be over.
