Arizona’s quarterback brings a new dimension to the Wildcats’ attack

For two years, Arizona fans knew Noah Fifita as a pocket passer with sharp accuracy. But this fall, his game is expanding. The Wildcats’ offense is evolving with a more mobile Fifita, and it could be the piece that pushes Arizona’s attack to another level.

The biggest difference comes from new offensive coordinator Seth Doege’s playbook. Fifita admitted that Doege has dialed up more designed runs than he’s ever had. Last season, Fifita finished with just seven designed runs for 40 yards. By contrast, his 29 scrambles produced 179 yards and 12 explosive gains. With Doege encouraging him to “use my legs as a weapon,” Arizona’s offense is planning to turn those improvisations into intentional playmaking.

The second shift is physical. Strength coach Cullen Carroll’s offseason program tested players with 10-80 sprint machines. Fifita consistently ranked in the top 10 of 10- and 20-yard sprints, showing he’s gained real burst. Coaches believe he now has more speed than he realizes, making him a bigger threat when the pocket collapses.

Finally, Fifita’s competitiveness adds another layer. His lone career rushing score, a broken play against West Virginia, highlighted toughness as he fought through three defenders at the goal line. Head coach Brent Brennan praised that effort, calling it proof of Fifita’s “special” edge.

If Arizona balances designed runs with his passing talent, the Wildcats could unlock an offense that stresses defenses in new ways. The message is clear: Fifita’s legs may be just as dangerous as his arm.
