With just one week to go before the summer transfer window shuts, Chelsea are struggling to let go of a number of their players.

However, the defender that the Blues are perhaps struggling to get rid of the most is Ben Chilwell.

Despite being a part of the bomb squad at Chelsea, the former Leicester City man is on substantial wages at Stamford Bridge, and Enzo Maresca’s team are struggling to find a potential suitor for the English international.

In such a situation, Chelsea legend Frank Lampard could be about to do his former side a huge favour.

According to reports, Lampard is interested in signing Chilwell for his current side, Coventry City, in the Championship.

Under Lampard’s leadership, Coventry has made an impressive start to their Championship season and have been scoring goals for fun.

Frank Lampard sets his sights on signing Ben Chilwell for Coventry City

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that Lampard is pushing to sign Chilwell from his former club.

Lampard’s interest in the player comes as a huge shot in the arm for Chelsea, who have been struggling to move the player on this summer.

Frustrated with the lack of offers for Chilwell, the club has also considered terminating the player’s contract in order to get him off the wage bill.

A move to Coventry under Lampard does make sense for Chilwell, as it was the Chelsea legend who signed him for the club during his first spell in charge.

So, Lampard clearly has a good relationship with Chilwell and would like to rekindle that at Coventry City.

Now, it seems to be just a question of whether Chilwell would be open to stepping down to the Championship as he looks to get his career back on track.
